News and Events Yippee!!!!!!!

Newsy Items for You!!

I am very excited to announce I will be offering an Advanced Reiki Training on Saturday, April 28th, from 9am to 4:30pm at Solutions for Healing and Renewal. There is just so much within Reiki to share that I am not able to give enough time to in a traditional Reiki Master Class that I have decided revise my sequence of classes to include this one, similar to William Rand. In this class, students will receive the Usui master attunement, learn the Usui Reiki Master Symbol, learn additional Reiki meditations and learn advanced treatment techniques (distant and in-person). Investment for the class is $185 and students receive their own class manual and certificate of completion. The only prerequisite is completion of Reiki II. To register, just e-mail me at mclarkson-hendrix@nycap.rr.com or feel free to call me at (518) 383-8311.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes! Solutions for Healing and Renewal’s e-mail list has grown to the point I am not able to send an e-mail through Road Runner to everyone at once (Yay for growing!!). So….I have decided to begin the process of changing e-mails over to Mailchimp. Mailchimp is a funky, fun e-mail service that will allow me to send e-mails to a large group. Keep your eyes out over the next couple of weeks for my new e-mail format from Mailchimp!

Events, Events, Events!

Synthesis of Research

Based upon this research, I would like to propose that Reiki did have some impact on the healing of Nellie. This is most notably seen in the doctor’s report of progress between the first and second appointments I had been tracking. Also, it is seen in the changes in the visual characteristics of the eye area before and after the first Reiki session.

Speculations, Personal Views, and Opinions

Speculations

I do believe that Reiki had a positive impact on Nellie’s recovery although I must note as well the obvious impact of the traditional medical interventions upon her progress as well. It might be best to see the use of Reiki for dogs with injuries as a complementary modality that could work hand-in-hand with traditional medical interventions.

I must also acknowledge the limitations of the design of my informal research. The operational definition of healing (visual characteristics of the eye area before and after the session) is limited in the fact that the pictures were taken from different angles. Also, the changed gauged was just based on my observations, which could have been influenced by my desire for her to heal. It would likely help in more formal research to develop some more valid and reliable measures to assess healing.

Also, the operational definition for acceleration was vulnerable to bias and error. For example, the vet could have an investment in responding ways that he might perceive would retain me as a customer since I am paying him for his services.

An interesting speculation to note is that the largest healing impact and acceleration occurred just after the group distant healing by the Reiki II Class. It seems that more people sending Reiki at the same time may have a larger impact on the acceleration of the healing. This should be viewed as a tentative idea though since there is some vulnerability on my part to bias since I shared dual of roles as the researcher as well as the teacher of the class.

Personal Views

Personally, I believe that Reiki treatment could be of benefit to other dogs with injuries even if I am not certain it’s exact impact on Nellie. At a minimum, I could say that the Reiki relaxed her, which would help with any dog’s recovery.

Opinions

I think it would be helpful to try to do some more case studies with the use of Reiki with other dogs. In this case, I might try to be more aware of the impact of some of the extraneous variables that might impact, and, to my ability, try to figure some ways to control them a bit better. It might help to do some research on measures used by other people looking into how Reiki could be used with dogs.

Applications of my Research

This case study could be used as a treatment model for a Reiki Practitioner to consider using with other dogs with injuries. It could also be adapted for other types of animals with injuries. Also, since there appeared to be a larger impact with a number of people doing distant treatment together, it may be helpful to consider incorporating this as one treats an injured dog with Reiki.

It would also be helpful to consider extending these approaches to other animals, including people, who might have sustained injuries. At the very least, I could easily state the Reiki showed no evidence of harming Nellie during this study, and, in my opinion, it helped.

Benefits of Findings

These findings suggest it is beneficial to consider Reiki as a tool a dog owner (doggy parent) might use to support their dogs in instances of injuries. During this time, many dog owners can acutely empathize with their dog’s distress. They may feel there is nothing they could do to help. However, with Reiki training, they could provide treatment to support the healing of their animal.

It is also hoped that this informal research could give ideas to other Reiki Practitioners of ways they could incorporate simple measures to assess change within and between Reiki treatments. Measurements of change could inform how the practitioner approaches Reiki sessions with their clients, leading to methods that provide evidence of efficacy.

Reiki Research Update

IMG_20101128_150243IMG_20101128_152505

I wanted to update everyone on my informal research on the use of Reiki to accelerate the healing process.

Above on the left is a picture of the face of my dog, Nellie, prior to a 20 minute Reiki session I provided to her on Sunday, 11/26.  On the right is a picture after the completion of the Reiki session.

I operationally defined healing as a reduction in swelling in the eye area as viewed from photos before and after the session.  In this instance, her swelling had already subsided so there was no difference between the slides.

I had operationally defined acceleration in healing as the doctor’s report of healing being faster than expected between appointments.  Nellie went to the vet on 11/27.  He reported at that time that the healing between sessions was not faster than he had expected.

On a positive note, this was Nellie’s final session related to her eye injury as the injury had resolved.

My hope is in a further blog entry to present a discussion of my findings and some conclusions.

Reiki Research Update-Nellie

Nellie Pre-Reiki SessionNellie Post Reiki Session

I wanted to continue to update everyone on my informal Reiki Research on Nellie.

On the left above is a picture of Nellie’s eye prior to her 20 minute Reiki session today, and, on the right, is a picture of the eye after the Reiki session.

I’ve operationally defined in previous posts healing as a visible difference in the eye pre and post the Reiki session.  I looked at both pictures, and I’m not noticing any significant differences between the two.

Overall, though, one positive thing to note between these pics and the last pics posted is the different in the openness of the eye and an overall decrease in the blue tint (fluid build up) around the eye.

I’m looking forward to our next vet session, which is on 11/29, to again find out from the doc if the healing is accelerating more quickly than he had expected.

Reiki In the Media

Hi Everyone-I wanted to share this video from CNN on Energy Healing.  It primarily focuses on Reiki, and it’s emerging use as a complementary modality to traditional medicine.  Check it out.

Reiki Research Update

I wanted to update everyone on my informal Reiki Research concerning my dog, Nellie.  Since my last update, Nellie was able to receive a distant healing from the Reiki II Class myself and my business partner, Mary Grace Murphy, lead on Sunday, 11/7/10.

The vet reported today that Nellie’s healing had significantly progressed beyond what he had expected.  He reported that an injury at the back of her eye had decreased 70% since the last appointment.  He also noted she had gained weight.

She continues to need to wear her E-Collar, but her follow-up appointment was pushed to two weeks and her meds have been decreased.

Although I must bear in mind that I have not controlled for  any extraneous variables (like I said this is really informal research LOL)  that could impact on her progress, I also want to acknowledge and celebrate the fact that she is doing better!!!

Reiki Research Update

Just wanted to follow up on my informal Reiki research.  I had operationally defined acceleration as the vet’s report that she had improved in her health more quickly than he had expected.  At her vet appointment last night, the vet said she was slightly ahead in her healing of what he had expected.

I plan to continue to do some more Reiki sessions with Nellie and take more pics of her before and after sessions and keep everyone posted on what the vet is saying
